dedication

I'd like to dedicate this post to .. nobody I know

nobody is responsible for a lot

in sugarstone we always used to say, whilst we were setting up, 'nobody's coming'

as in there will be no-one in attendance. it was a joke of course, usually quite a few people would turn up, but there was always the slight concern that attendance would be poor. 'nobody' became the collective name for the punters - 'see nobody's in again' etc. how we laughed

my point today is that i cannot think of anyone i know who has dedicated their life to something

I've just been to the gym. It is located within the local swimming baths & there was a kids swimming event on - a gala or something. It reminded me of the many swimming galas and events I went to when my daughter was a competitive swimmer. to be able to compete, she had to train. every evening, 3-4 mornings per week from 5 am, and seemingly all day on a Sunday. one has to be very dedicated. she managed to do this for several years and it was hard work for all concerned. it paid off of course, not in terms of Olympic glory or anything but in terms of being able to apply herself, keeping fit and being used to a level of discipline.

I watched England's defeat at the hands of the Irish team in the 6 Nations earlier. someone I know sent a joke about how the English team are now a 'laughing stock'. I saw that and thought 'fuck you'. these guys are totally dedicated to this athletic lifestyle, this particular idiot (the one who made the laughing stock joke) is dedicated to nowt. he's just a useless cunt. same as me, and pretty much everyone else. we do nothing really of any value.

okay i know some people are nurses or firemen or whatever, but it's just a job right?

maybe at one time I was dedicated to being creative - writing songs, a book, whatever, but not really.

still did loads of other crap stuff at the same time - binge watching, binge drinking, binge taxidermy and that.

I've known people be dedicated to their children - but again not forever - it's more like a phase really & though they make sacrifices, they still find the time to indulge themselves in whatever it is they enjoy.

when people are truly dedicated to something, the rest of us feel we have the right to attack them for it.

soccer players, rugby players, politicians. oh yeah - people like Corbyn, May, Boris - they're just in it for the money right? I doubt that. there are easier ways to make money than trying to run the country. okay not Boris - not sure what's going on with that fuckwit.

Priests. well, I guess that's dedication, misguided, but it is a lifelong dedication for most. Of course I don't know any priests. I did once. I used to hang out with a Catholic priest who was very cool. Apart from him, I can't think of anyone who's truly dedicated to anything other than their own self serving ambitions. me included of course.

anyhow

just an observation

I think it used to be different, but can't say for certain..

ta-da

what's the point? there isn't one. pointless. nobody has a point. i do have a pint though.

x
