2021 and on

January saw my last note on here.

yeah well, what's the urgency. none right.

there will be readers one day, but if not, it matters little. i like doing this. it is saturday morning, quite early still and i am lying in bed with my blog, a pint of tea made for me & delivered bedside by my poppet.

that happens every day btw. without fail, my best friend brings me a coffee or tea and a glass of juice upstairs, puts it on the bedside cabinet & i glow with appreciation - really. by the smell of it just now there are sausages cooking downstairs for breakfast.

well it is. we found each other. and it's class.

contentment stifles creativity i heard. john peel once said that paul mccartney wrote his best stuff when he was practically down and out, years later living on an island with a millionaire photographer and a diet of tofu love eggs he churns out 'mull of kintyre'. what should we expect? he may never have said that, but i didn't just make it up. i read it or heard it somewhere years ago. or something like it. possibly something very different. chinese whispers. dangerous.

the internet is packed with chinese whispers, distorted half truths, misinformation, disinformation...

are misinfo and disinfo the same? yes - i googled it. mis & dis are both wrong things, untruths, but 'disinformation' is deliberately misleading. ie a lie. should be 'disleading' really i suppose.

why are these whispers 'chinese'? imma google that now cos it seems racist....

it's called chinese whispers because folk back in the old racist days used to 'say' that chinese people were difficult to understand, on account of them being from a different place with whole other languages and whatnot i imagine eh, and hence they were easily misunderstood.

i do the google thing a lot. why wouldn't we? its lost some novelty but still i marvel at the expanse of knowledge available to me via a device in my pocket.

there should be zero misinfo or disinfo, when things presented as facts are so easily checked. instantly checked.

my best songwriting / creative phase was about 20 years ago now, if i recall it correctly i churned out 'we are the boys' and 'it's about time' in the same week. meaningless to most people but since they're two of my best efforts then, if it's true, then it's not bad. to get that in perspective, i've written the sum total of zero complete songs all year in 2021.

maybe i'm too happy. or too old. old and happy

a mid-life crisis is a thing. mine was great and terrible. and resulted in loads of good original stuff. content. that's what stuff is called now. things are still things but stuff is called content. seemingly there is little content in contentment then.

i have some tune content cooking now though. ideas, sketches and the notion of getting a new album out of them. last year i got an album of covers and a new original album - my fifth. ha.

I've discovered now, in these days of alexa etc, that a quirky title can be very useful. so my new effort will continue the tradition of consisting of a string of clever sounding words that mean next to fuck all to anyone expect me.

also hillier and i have an 80's cover album in the works. just stalled for now.

haven't played a live gig in such a long time. i don't really miss it. last ones i did were disappointing. now i fear the next one will be worse and so am putting it off. i feel like i'd quite enjoy going out on my own with an acoustic. really though i know i probably wouldn't enjoy it at all. it would be a source of stress for sure.

anyway.
