music is fckd
well i don't know, it said to 'add a catchy title'..
it is though
it's new years eve 2021, ie it's 2022 tomorrow
10 am and though i'm still in bed typing, i have been awake for hours. 1 minute while i check ..since 06:41am
I have a fitbit that tells me how long i sleep for and am fascinated by it. though i've read that they're not that accurate, and i do see that when it tells me sometimes i was asleep when i know i wasn't.
i realise i shouldn't have to qualify the time signature by adding the 'am' suffix. seems to be the way it goes atm. 'it's happening at 11 o'clock am in the morning' etc. bah. language is fucked. except it's not. it's evolving. all of the complaints about incorrect use of punctuation, the americanisation of the english language are simply protesting the inevitable. things change. no one says 'i'm off to ye olde shoppe' anymore. maybe 100 years ago some guy was whining that the double 'p' & the 'e' in shoppe should be protected. if so he was wasting his time. languages develop, culture develops, music develops.
we don't always like how that goes.
two extremes. earlier this year i watched the beatles get back thing, earlier this morning i updated my artist profile on spotify and tried to understand how to get tracks included in playlists. things have evolved. i wonder how the beatles would fair if they were starting now. probably pretty well of course but still, it's tricky to gauge. there are millions of people out there trying to get noticed. millions and millions. it's quite possible this is thanks to them in a way.
of the millions, tragically few have much to offer in terms of interesting material or genuine talent.
having dabbled with electronic music creation i understand broadly how easy it is to create stuff without being able to play or sing a note. there's some talent required to produce something viable of course, but it doesn't need to be musical talent. i guess that's been the case for quite a few years now, however it is extreme compared to the 80's & 90's when manufactured pop became the mainstream. watching the xmas totp from nineteen eighty sommat the other night showcased the proliferation of the hit factory product. unprecedented at the time i think. today however, people can make this kind of thing on their phones, relatively easily, without needing to sing or play or even write lyrics. it is a good thing that we have this ability. that it is accessible to anyone who wants it.
it is a good thing. it should be.
it clouds the offer though. it clogs every platform, making it ever more difficult to find something new & interesting.
the other thing about it though, and the reason that music is fucked as far as I'm concerned is that even with all of this tech, this power, ...i got nowt. i have nothing. nada. no ideas. no inspiration. fucking hell.
i was telling myself it was a time thing, an availability issue. i just need to sit down and write something. well, I've been off work for over a week and still nought forthcoming. zero. arse.
meh.
it's fucked.
